Stringing Options
In terms of the strings performance the owner should consider what they most want to improve in their game:
Less Tension
A racket strung at a lower tension will be more forgiving in the shot
and provide more power. Generally better for players still developing
their game. Known as the trampoline effect.
More Tension
Provides greater control but requires a greater level of ability to be
able to make use of the extra control. Comes at the sacrifice of power.
General Rules
As a general rule, you should restring your racket the number of times
you play in a week per season. I.e. The tennis season runs from July to
December so if you play three times a week then your racket should be
restrung every eight weeks
You should always warm up the strings before you play. This can be
done by rubbing a towel over both sides of the string for 30 seconds to
induce heat.
Stringing Types
Monofilament
A solid construction blending polyester or polyether
Solid core with Single wrap
A very common construction. The solid core gives durability while
reducing tension loss whilst the outer wrap improves playability and
protects the inner core. Example string type: Prince Synthetic gut
Solid core with Double wrap
A softer feel is achieved although durability is decreased due to a thinner core
Multi-core with Single wrap
Improved playability with the increased elasticity of the multifilament
core. The outer wrap protects the core. This is a very popular string
type with badminton and squash players. Example string type: Ashaway
Rally 21, Super Nick XL
Multifilament
Similar construction to Natural Gut. The coreless string is made from
multi-fibres and then coated for protection. This string looses tension
quicker than a string with a central core. Example string type:
Technifibre
Composites
A combination of nylon and aramid fibres increases durability whilst
retaining playability. Example string type: Ashaway Composite XL
Strings and Prices
This depends on what you specify. We have many strings for you to
choose from but you need to specify what tension you require. We can
advise if you are not sure. Tennis Squash and Racquetball restringing
starts from £12.50. Badminton £12.99. Post and packaging within the UK
£8.
